About This Openly
People in your community - your friends, family, co-workers and other community members are struggling with their mental health. Do you know how you can support them … or yourself? In this series we will explore what mental health and mental illness mean and learn skills to help ourselves, the people we care about and our community of southwestern Wisconsin. (Free)

by Roger Reynolds who lives with Civilian PTSD and speaks openly to
help people understand themselves and mental health struggles better, and
Julie Stephenson who uses therapy and medication to support her mental health
and is a community conversation starter interested in normalizing the messiness
of being a human being.
These casual, plain talk sessions will be:
Starting with the range from mental health to mental illness, we will move into a bit about various mental illnesses, plus a little about the brain and please bring your questions and thoughts.
Week 2: Cheese Curds, Pizza and Chocolate: Bringing Mindfulness into Everyday Life
We can be mindful in everyday activities from washing dishes to running a
chainsaw, from breathing to smelling popcorn; and while eating cheese curds,
pizza or chocolate. Being mindful in everyday activities can help us
learn to use mindfulness for better mental health.
Week 3: Be Kind or Midwest Nice: Compare and Contrast
Where is the balance between being kind to others and kind to you? How do
you balance both? What about obligations, boundaries, resentment and
focusing on the positive?
Week 4: Bringing It All Together for Self & Community Care
Writing, coloring, drawing, other arts, doodling, video journaling and more can
all be used for self-awareness, self-reflection, distracting, calming and
exploring ideas.
